New Video Games: August 2026's Biggest Releases and Launch Dates

From Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation to Star Wars Zero Company, here are the major video game launches arriving in August 2026.

August 2026 has turned into an unusually crowded month for new releases, with Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation leading the charge. The studio best known for Pokémon is launching a sci-fi fantasy RPG on August 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and the early impressions highlight a striking visual jump from its usual output. Set in the year 4026, the game follows an outcast named Emma and her dog Koo as they travel across a ruined Japan fighting creatures and diseases that have overtaken the land. Screen Rant notes the combat blends real-time action with turn-based mechanics and cinematic animations.

The release timing is slightly complicated by a simultaneous global launch. According to VICE, the game unlocks at the same moment worldwide, which means U.S. players on the West Coast can start on August 3 at 5 PM PT, while East Coast players can begin at 8 PM ET that same evening. Most of Europe and Asia will not get access until August 4. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can also play at launch without buying the game separately.

Nintendo's Switch 2 is getting two notable MMO arrivals on August 4. Final Fantasy XIV Online: Dawntrail is finally making its long-rumored debut on the handheld-console hybrid, accompanied by Once Human, a third-person base-building shooter that adds another multiplayer option to the system's store.

Star Wars Zero Company lands on August 27 and is shaping up to be one of the more distinct takes on the franchise this year. Developed as a decision-based tactical strategy game set during the Clone Wars, it promises appearances from characters such as Anakin Skywalker. The same day also sees Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, a re-release that remasters Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Screen Rant points out that Metal Gear Solid 4 in particular benefits from the upgrade after years of being difficult to revisit on modern hardware.

Looking slightly further out, Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled for October 6, 2026. The Coalition's prequel returns Marcus Fenix to the Emergence Day storyline and will be an Xbox Series X|S console exclusive while also launching on Windows through Steam and the Xbox app. Game Pass Ultimate members get day-one access, and those who pre-order can enter an open beta early access period starting August 6. Space.com reports that three editions will be available, including a Collector's package with a fifteen-inch statue and replica COG tags.

Not everything is tied to a future date. The pirate city builder Corsair Cove has already launched on Steam with a 25 percent discount, pricing it at $29.99 or £26.24 during its introductory sale. PCGamesN describes the game as embracing chaos rather than tidy urban planning.

With major publishers dropping original RPGs, classic re-releases, and live-service ports within the same few weeks, August is a reminder that the late-summer release window still carries weight.
